Term 1 Special Guests and Incursions

This term has been a busy one with some very special guests visiting MOSS.
Mount Ommaney Special School had the wonderful opportunity to host cyclist Kristina Clonan who will be representing Australia in the upcoming Commonwealth Games in April. Kristina visited as part of a Queensland Academy of Sports initiative engaging with students and speaking on healthy eating and lifestyle choices. Kristina also involved students in some physical activities that included of course, some bike riding. We wish Kristina all the best as she represents Australia at the games.
In week 3 we had a visit from a member of the  Raw Art team with students participating in a sensory art experience that supported The Arts curriculum. Faces were made from clay and decorated using various items including buttons and coloured match sticks. Students enjoyed messy play as they engaged in moulding and shaping the clay and smoothing the clay with water.
Naomi from Geckoes Wildlife engaged students from the Early Years with an interactive lesson on animals as part of the science unit ‘living and non-living things’. Students had the opportunity of a close encounter with a number of reptiles and other animals including a baby crocodile, carpet python, squirrel glider, tawny frog-mouth owl and a baby possum.
